A few weekends ago we braved the freezing, rainy weather and set out to Strandveld Cottages for some R&R (and wine of course!) Stranveld is about 2 and a half hours from Cape Town and most of the last hour saw us bumping along dirt roads lined with beautiful pink proteas. We stopped for lunch at the Black Oystercatcher and thawed out next to the wood fire, enjoying a fantastic Sauv Blanc! Their burgers were delicious and I can definitely recommend the prawn and chorizo salad with paprika mayo, yum!
About ten more minutes down the road and we were at our destination, 2 lovely farm cottages. North cottage is the nicer of the 2 as it has a double bed, larger fireplace and slightly nicer layout, however, the cottages are back to back so perfect for 2 couples!
The cottages are quiet and peaceful and we had a ball wandering around the farm and dam across the dirt road. We even had one of the shaggy farm dogs who joined us on our walks!
All in all, a lovely get-away, especially if you’re looking for somewhere reasonable to go, (R300 pp per night.) I wish we could have stayed longer than just one night.
